Professional Padel in Hong Kong

Hong Kong's professional padel scene is unusual for how far it has outrun its own playing population: a territory with only a handful of courts has already hosted a run of FIP-sanctioned events, drawing international fields to venues that opened within the last two or three years. That home calendar, including an FIP Silver date at Go Park in Sai Sha, gives the territory's own competitors something rare for a market this new, a chance to test themselves against visiting professionals without leaving home. The domestic contingent behind it is small and still forming: a squad of 17 ranked players, split across the men's and women's game, drawn heavily from the international and Cantonese communities that first brought the sport to Sai Kung and Quarry Bay. None of them yet sit inside the tour's upper reaches, and the territory has yet to convert a home date into silverware of its own, but the presence of an established domestic calendar this early in a market's life is itself the distinctive thing about Hong Kong's professional padel, ahead of what its playing numbers alone would suggest.

History of padel in Hong Kong

Padel is younger in Hong Kong than almost anywhere else it is played, with the territory's first dedicated club opening only in 2023. What has followed since is a compressed version of the sport's growth elsewhere: expatriate demand, corporate wellness culture and a shortage of court space have combined to push padel from a curiosity to a waiting list in the space of a couple of years.

When did padel first arrive in Hong Kong?

Padel arrived comparatively late in Hong Kong. Padel+, the territory's first dedicated club, opened in Sai Kung in 2023, built initially around expatriate players from Spain, Argentina and France.

How many padel clubs are there in Hong Kong?

Hong Kong's padel infrastructure is still small but growing quickly from that single 2023 club, with facilities such as Go Park Sai Sha adding dedicated courts and a full padel club within a few years, alongside temporary pop-up courts in commercial districts.

Does Hong Kong host international padel tournaments?

Yes. Hong Kong hosts FIP-sanctioned events on home courts, including entry-level and Bronze tournaments and an FIP Silver date at Go Park in Sai Sha, a notably high tier of event for a market this young.

What is the governing body for padel in Hong Kong?

The Hong Kong, China Padel Association organises the sport domestically and is the territory's recognised member of the International Padel Federation, which allows Hong Kong to host sanctioned FIP tournaments.

Who plays padel in Hong Kong?

Hong Kong's playing base grew initially around expatriate communities familiar with the sport from Spain, Argentina and France, before spreading into the territory's corporate workforce through wellness and after-work programmes and, more gradually, the wider local community.

Why is space a challenge for padel in Hong Kong?

Hong Kong's dense, land-constrained built environment makes new outdoor courts comparatively expensive and slow to add, which has kept membership waiting lists long at existing clubs even as demand for the sport keeps growing.
