How Long Does a Padel Match Last? Data From 2,000+ Pro Matches
The short answer. A professional padel match lasts about 75 minutes when it is won in two sets and about two hours when it goes to three. That comes from 2,086 Premier Padel and FIP main-draw matches in our database. A club match is usually played inside a 60 or 90-minute court booking. Padel has no clock: the scoring format decides how long you play.

How long do professional padel matches last?
We looked at every main-draw match with a recorded duration in our database from Premier Padel (P1, P2, Majors and Finals) and FIP events between March 2025 and October 2026. That is 2,086 matches: 1,339 men's and 747 women's.
| Matches | Average | Median | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Men, two sets | 974 | 75 min | 73 min |
| Men, three sets | 365 | 122 min | 121 min |
| Women, two sets | 558 | 80 min | 77 min |
| Women, three sets | 189 | 140 min | 138 min |
| Men, all matches | 1,339 | 88 min | 82 min |
| Women, all matches | 747 | 95 min | 86 min |
A few things stand out.
- Most matches are over in two sets. Only 27% of men's matches and 25% of women's went to a third.
- The spread is wide. 13% of matches finished in under an hour, 44% took between 60 and 90 minutes, and 43% ran past 90 minutes. About one in six lasted more than two hours.
- Women's matches run a little longer. The scorelines are similar, but a game takes 4.6 minutes on average in the women's draw and 4.0 in the men's. Longer rallies are a likely reason.
- Finals are longer. The median men's final lasted 97 minutes and the median women's final 117.
You can see match times for recent tournaments on our Premier Padel results page.
Why some matches take twice as long as others
The number of games played explains most of it.
| Games played in the match | Example score | Median length |
|---|---|---|
| 12–16 | 6-2 6-2 | 59 minutes |
| 17–21 | 6-4 6-4 | 77 minutes |
| 22–26 | 7-5 7-6 | 100 minutes |
| 27 or more | 6-4 4-6 7-5 | 131 minutes |
Three things push a match up that ladder.
- A third set. It adds 50 to 60 minutes at professional level.
- Tie-breaks and 7-5 sets. Each one adds games, and a tie-break at 6-6 is played to seven points with a two-point margin, so it can run on.
- Rally length. Padel rallies are long because the walls keep the ball in play. Two pairs who defend well will take longer over the same score.
How long is a set in padel?
At professional level, about 37 minutes in the men's game and about 40 in the women's. We get there by halving the average two-set match: 75 minutes for men, 80 for women.
A set is won by the first pair to reach six games with a two-game lead. At 6-6 a tie-break decides it (FIP Rules of Padel, Rule 1). A 6-1 set can be over in 20 minutes. A set that reaches a tie-break often passes 50.
How long does an amateur padel match last?
Nobody measures club matches, so what follows is typical, not data.
Club players usually play for as long as the court is booked. Courts are sold in 60 or 90-minute slots, and which is standard depends on the club and the country.
- In 60 minutes you can warm up briefly and play two sets if they go quickly. There is no room for a third.
- In 90 minutes two sets fit comfortably. A tight three-setter often does not, which is why many groups agree before they start to play a super tie-break in place of a third set, or simply stop when the next booking arrives.
If you are entering a competition, check the format first. Our guide to playing your first padel tournament covers what to expect.
Formats that make matches shorter
The rules give organisers several ways to shorten a match. All of them are in the FIP Rules of Padel, Rule 1 and its alternative scoring methods.
- Golden Point. At 40-40 one deciding point is played. No advantage, so no game can drag on.
- Star Point. New in the 2026 rulebook. Advantage is played up to twice. If the score comes back to deuce a third time, one deciding point settles the game. Premier Padel has used it since the first tournament of 2026.
- Super tie-break. At one set all, a tie-break to ten points replaces the third set. Since a third set adds close to an hour at pro level and a super tie-break takes about ten minutes, it saves well over half an hour. That figure is our estimate.
- Americano. A different format altogether: short rounds to a fixed number of points with rotating partners. It is sold by time, so it always ends when it should.
The time allowed between points also matters. Rule 2 gives 20 seconds between points, 90 seconds at a change of ends and 120 seconds between sets. Before the match there is a three-minute warm-up.
For how each option works, see our padel scoring guide.
The longest padel matches
The longest match on the Premier Padel tour was played at the Italy Major in Rome on 6 June 2026. In the women's semi-final, Ariana Sánchez and Andrea Ustero beat Paula Josemaría and Bea González 5-7 7-6 7-6 in 4 hours and 12 minutes, after saving four match points. Premier Padel and the FIP both called it the longest match in the tour's history. The previous record was exactly four hours, set at the Milan P1 in 2024.
It is also the longest match in our sample. Only one match in 2,086 passed three and a half hours.
Quick answers
How many sets are in a padel match?
Three at most. A match is the best of three sets, so the first pair to win two sets wins. Some competitions replace the third set with a tie-break to seven or ten points.
How long is a set in padel?
About 37 to 40 minutes at professional level, based on our data. A one-sided set can take 20 minutes and a set that goes to a tie-break can take more than 50.
Is 60 minutes enough for a padel match?
Often, but not always. Two quick sets fit in an hour. A close match will not finish, so agree beforehand what happens when time runs out.
How long should I book a padel court for?
90 minutes if the club offers it. That gives you a warm-up and two full sets, with time for a super tie-break if you split them.
Is padel for 2 or 4 people?
Four. Padel is a doubles game and the official rules are written for two pairs. Two people can still play, and we explain how in our guide to singles padel.
Does padel have a time limit?
No. A padel match is played to a score, not to a clock. The only time limits in the rules are between points, at changes of ends and between sets.
Sources and method
How we measured. Durations come from the StudyPadel match database: main-draw matches at Premier Padel P1, P2, Major and Finals events and at FIP events, played between March 2025 and October 2026, with a recorded duration. Of 2,131 records we removed 45: retirements and walkovers with fewer than two completed sets, and records with clearly broken durations. That leaves 2,086 matches. Men's data starts in March 2025 and women's in August 2025.
