Professional Padel in France

France is one of the few countries whose women reached the top of the professional game before its men did. Alix Collombon has been the most consistent French presence on the Premier Padel circuit, playing much of the season alongside the Russian Ksenia Sharifova, and Léa Godallier has competed at the same level; Thomas Leygue and Dylan Guichard lead the men. The French tennis federation runs padel inside its own licence system, which passed a hundred thousand padel licence-holders in 2024/25 and gives players a graded path from club competition to the tour. 124 French players hold a world ranking, and France finished among the top eight nations in Doha.

History of padel in France

France built padel inside its tennis federation, and the result is one of Europe's steadiest expansions rather than one of its sharpest. The country passed a hundred thousand padel licence-holders in the 2024/25 season, spread across more than a thousand clubs, and 124 French players hold a world ranking.

Who governs padel in France?

The Fédération Française de Tennis. Padel licences are administered inside the same system as tennis licences, and much of the country's court growth has come from existing tennis clubs adding padel rather than from standalone commercial centres.

How many padel players are registered in France?

The French Tennis Federation passed 100,000 padel-specific licence-holders for the first time in the 2024/25 season. That figure counts formally registered players rather than estimated participation, so it is not directly comparable with headline player numbers elsewhere.

How many padel courts are there in France?

Around 4,000 courts spread across more than a thousand clubs, an increase of roughly 40% since 2021.

Is French padel growth sustainable?

It has been less speculative than in several other European markets. Because much of the expansion ran through member-owned tennis clubs rather than investor-financed chains, new capacity has tracked demonstrated local demand more closely.

When did padel start in France?

Courts appeared from the 1990s, mostly in the south, and France had a competitive structure well before the sport gained a public profile. It entered the 2020s expansion with clubs and coaches already established.
