Professional Padel in Paraguay

Paraguay's professional padel still turns on a handful of names, but one of them set a tour record. In 2024, Facundo Dehnike partnered Spain's Manuel Aragon to reach a Premier Padel semi-final at sixteen, the youngest player ever to do so. Dehnike has since been joined at the front of the Paraguayan game by Mariano Gonzalez, from Encarnacion, who became the first Paraguayan to reach the quarter-finals of a Premier Padel P1 event, and by Martin Abud, the country's most decorated player of the current era, whose results include an A1 Padel title alongside Spaniard Jose Solano and a junior world championship won in his teens. Abud and Dehnike partnered again to win Paraguay's first padel gold medal at the South American Games, beating the host nation in the final. The scene remains overwhelmingly a men's story: 14 Paraguayans hold a world ranking, and the gap between the men's and women's game has not narrowed as the men's results have improved. For a country this size, the task ahead looks less like repeating any one player's breakthrough than widening the base those breakthroughs came from.

History of padel in Paraguay

Paraguay's padel federation was founded in the early 1990s, one of the first in South America to join the sport's international body, and the country has since hosted a Premier Padel event, a senior World Championship and a Juniors World Championship. Its growth has been steady rather than explosive, built around a small number of generational talents rather than a broad amateur boom.
