Juan Mieres Petruf and Pablo Lima spent seven seasons chasing the Belasteguin-Diaz monopoly and became the pair that finally ended it, taking the world number one ranking after more than a decade of one-sided rule. Mieres played the backhand court, a defender from Bahia Blanca who built points patiently rather than forcing them, and whose consistency held the partnership together. He finished with 22 titles from 71 finals.
