Padel Brand

Slazenger

United Kingdom
Slazenger has supplied the balls for Wimbledon since 1902, the longest partnership in sport, and the London firm behind them was founded by two brothers in 1881. Its padel line is the newest chapter of that racket-sports history, run under Frasers Group, and it is aimed at Britain's rapid adoption of the game rather than at the Spanish circuit.

Slazenger questions

What nationality is Slazenger?

Slazenger is a United Kingdom padel brand. Its rackets are sold across Europe and Latin America through the retailers we track.

What racket ranges does Slazenger make?

Slazenger builds 2 racket ranges — Challenge and Epic. Each range has several models tuned to different playing styles.

How many Slazenger rackets are there?

We track 5 Slazenger rackets currently listed by the retailers we follow, across every range and model year.

What does Slazenger's tennis history mean for its padel equipment?

It means recognition rather than technical transfer. A century of supplying balls to the most watched tennis tournament in the world gives the name instant credibility with a British buyer who has never held a padel racket, and that is the asset the line is built on. The frames themselves are conventional composites and owe little to the company's tennis engineering.

How does Slazenger's padel strategy differ from the Spanish brands?

It targets new players rather than the competitive core. Spanish brands design from the professional circuit downwards and rely on players wanting what the tour plays; Slazenger sells through general sports retail to a public that has played a handful of times. It is a volume position, not a performance one.

Why is Slazenger opening padel venues as well as selling rackets?

Because in Britain the shortage is courts, not equipment. A brand that owns venues controls where beginners meet the sport, which rackets they hire, and what they see when they decide to buy their own. It is a route to market that only works while a country is still building its padel infrastructure, and it is available to Slazenger because of the retail group behind it.

What kind of player is Slazenger padel aimed at?

Players early in the sport who want a recognisable name and easy availability. The frames sit at the accessible end and are stocked in general sports retail rather than in padel specialists, which suits a buyer replacing a rental racket. Competitive players choosing by shape, balance and core hardness will find deeper options elsewhere.

About Slazenger

Ralph and Albert Slazenger opened a sporting goods business on Cannon Street in London in 1881, which makes the company older than most of the sports it equips. Its defining relationship began in 1902, when it started supplying tennis balls to Wimbledon, an arrangement that has outlasted every other sponsorship in sport and gives the name a permanence few sporting brands can claim.

The twentieth century was less linear. Slazenger passed through several owners and spent decades as a broad sportswear label rather than a specialist, and it now belongs to Frasers Group, the British retail company behind Sports Direct and House of Fraser. That ownership is the key to its padel strategy: Frasers has the retail estate, and Slazenger has the racket-sports name to put on it.

The move has therefore been broader than equipment. Alongside frames such as the Victory and the Challenge, carbon faces over EVA cores organised by playing level rather than by tour sponsorship, the company has moved into padel venues in the United Kingdom, which almost no racket brand does. Owning courts as well as rackets is a bet that the British bottleneck is access rather than choice, and it is a strategy no Spanish brand needs, because Spain has the courts already.

Slazenger is not competing for the player who follows the professional circuit and buys what the winners play. It is competing for the much larger group who have just booked a court for the first time, want something better than a rental racket, and recognise the name from tennis. That is a coherent position, and in the British market it may well be a larger one.
